Scented candles have become indispensable allies to create calm and cozy atmospheres. However, many times commercial options fail to capture exactly what we are looking for in terms of fragrance and aesthetics. The solution? Make your own scented candles. Not only is it a relaxing and creative activity, but it also allows you to customize every aspect of your candles. At Musa Magazine, we will guide you through a simple but complete process so that you can create your own aromatic masterpieces.

Necessary materials

To get started, you will need to gather the following materials:

- Soy wax: It is ecological and has an excellent ability to retain fragrances.

- Wicks: Preferably cotton, for cleaner combustion.

- Containers: It can be any type of heat-resistant jar.

- Essential oils: This is where you can be creative and choose your favorite aromas.

- Colorants: Optional, if you want to give a touch of color to your candles.

- thermometer: To make sure the wax is at the right temperature.

- Wooden sticks or skewers: To hold the wick in place while the wax cools.

- Double bottom pot: To melt the wax evenly and safely.

Step by Step

1. Preparation of the Work Area

Make sure you have a well-ventilated space and cover your work area with newspaper or an old cloth to protect it from spills. Have all your materials on hand to make the process easier.

2. Melt the Wax

Place the soy wax in the double bottom pot and heat it over low heat. Use the thermometer to monitor the temperature; The wax must reach approximately 70-80°C to melt completely.

3. Prepare the Wicks and Containers

While the wax melts, prepare your containers. Place a wick in the center of each jar, using a drop of melted wax to adhere the base of the wick to the bottom of the container. Use a wooden stick or skewer to keep the wick centered.

4. Add Fragrance and Color

Once the wax is completely melted and has reached 70°C, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly, to approximately 60°C. At this point, add the essential oils (generally about 10-15 drops per 500 grams of wax) and, if desired, the colorants. Mix well to ensure the fragrance and color are evenly distributed.

5. Pour the Wax

Carefully pour the wax into the prepared containers, leaving a small space at the top. Make sure the wicks remain centered. Let the wax cool and solidify completely, which may take several hours.

6. Trim the Highlights

Once the candles are completely cool and solid, trim the wicks to a length of about 1cm above the surface of the wax.

Making your own scented candles is not only a wonderful way to personalize the atmosphere of your home, but also a rewarding and creative activity. Experiment with different combinations of essential oils to find your perfect blend and enjoy the peace and satisfaction that comes from lighting a DIY candle. At Musa Magazine, we believe that beauty is in the details, and nothing better than a personal touch to make your space a true sanctuary.

Additional Tips

- Fragrance Ratio: Do not exceed the recommended amount of essential oils, as too much fragrance can interfere with the burning of the candle.

- Burn Tests: Always perform a burn test on a candle before making a large batch, to make sure the wick and fragrance ratio work well.

- Personalization: Add decorative elements such as dried flowers, shells or small stones to the surface of the wax before it completely solidifies for a unique touch.
